Twin Girls’ Bedroom Makeover
This summer, I had the opportunity to reconnect with a dear friend from third grade, Clair. Life had changed a lot since our carefree days at George Marks Elementary. Clair now has twin girls, and their shared bedroom just wasn’t working for them anymore. She had seen the transformation in my daughter Arden’s room and loved it. After some virtual planning sessions, I was thrilled to take Dr. DIY on the road to take on this twin girl’s bedroom makeover!
So, Arden and I hopped in the car and drove to Tennessee to spend a few days with Clair and her kids, turning their room into a space that was both fun and functional. It was an exciting challenge and an honor to help a friend give her kids the coolest girls’ room ever!

The Twins’ Room Before

As soon as we stepped into the girls’ bedroom, it was easy to see why it wasn’t working well for them. The two beds took up almost the entire floor space, leaving little room to play or move around. On top of that, there wasn’t much storage for their toys, clothes, or school supplies, which made the room feel cluttered and cramped. It was the perfect opportunity to rethink the layout and create a space that was both practical and fun for the twins.

Even though the room needed a makeover, there were some really cute items that we wanted to make sure had space to shine. At the same time, the dark accent wall made the room feel a little claustrophobic, so brightening up the space became a key part of the plan. Our goal was to create a room that felt open, cheerful, and still showcased the special pieces the girls loved.

I love this photo because it shows just how much this room gets used, even if it looks a little cluttered. The space is clearly full of life and activity. And how adorable is she sitting on her bed? Moments like this remind me that a bedroom isn’t just about looking perfect. Your kids’ rooms are a special space where they can play, relax, and feel at home.
Be Prepared to Pivot
Before I left my home in Baltimore, I asked Clair to take measurements of the room so I could plan the space accordingly. Once we had the room dimensions, we decided on 2 loft beds to really optimize floor space. I found what I was looking for on Facebook Marketplace, so I brought the beds with me to North Carolina. Once we got there, I painted them white to match the room design.
Then, we discovered the beds didn’t fit. Initially, I was really bummed to let go of the original vision for the room. But our time in North Carolina was limited, so we needed to pivot quickly. We decided that one of the girls would have a lofted bed and the other would have a regular bed. They took the disappointment in stride, and we moved forward to finish the room.
The room came together beautifully, and I’m really proud of what we accomplished for them. And now, with that momentary frustration behind me, I actually like this iteration of these twin girls’ bedroom makeover more than the original vision.
The Transformation

I knew we needed a bed that didn’t take up so much physical and visual space in the room. By tucking a twin bed under the loft bed, we gained an incredible amount of floor space. I think it’s adorable and instantly makes the room feel more open. On top of that, adding bright white bedding gives the space a clean, peaceful vibe while keeping it cozy and inviting for the girls.

Now, each daughter has her own little nook, complete with privacy curtains and a thrifted wall lamp. Just another reminder that you don’t have to blow your budget to find great items for your home.
I worked hard to give each girl a sense of personal space in their shared room. It’s amazing how small touches like these can make a big difference in both function and comfort. I look forward to seeing how they personalize their bed nooks in the future!

If your room is feeling crowded, one of the best strategies is to design upward. We did that with the bunk beds, and we continued the approach by hanging these books on the wall. I love any storage option that is beautiful and functional.
This puffy white chair folds up and can be tucked under the bed for even more floor space. If you have kids, you know how valuable open floor space is!

We decided to swap the gray accent wall for this gorgeous floral wallpaper. The wallpaper feels modern and playful, and it’s a design the girls can grow with as they get older. It instantly brightened the room and added a cheerful, stylish touch that ties the whole space together.

The two vanities were already in the room, and I love that it finally has the space it deserves. It’s the perfect addition for a little girl’s room—both functional and charming. The flowers in the vase are faux, but they look so realistic, adding a sweet, decorative touch without any fuss.
This Twin Girl’s Bedroom Makeover Was a Success!

We had such a great time helping redecorate this special bedroom for the twins, but the best part of the whole project was seeing the friendship that blossomed between the three girls. Watching them laugh, play, and bond throughout the makeover reminded me that the memories we create together are just as important as the beautiful spaces we design.
If you’re ready to give your child’s bedroom a fresh, fun makeover, don’t hesitate to send me a message—I’d love to help!
