Heang’s Home Office, Part 1 of 4: The Mood Board

| |

I have been working hard on another room makeover at my friend Heang’s house, her home office. I am so grateful that she has trusted me to design so many rooms in her home. To kick things off, I want to share with you a mood board I put together for this space. It’s always exciting to see ideas come together from concept to reality, and as soon as I’m finished, I’ll be sure to share the final product with you all!

What is a Mood Board?

A mood board is a visual tool for organizing and exploring ideas before starting a project. It typically includes images, colors, textures, and materials that reflect the overall look and feel you want to create. By laying out your inspirations in one place, it’s easier to see how elements work together.

I made this home office mood board in Canva. If you suffer from analysis paralysis, I highly recommend trying this method.

The Perfect Wallpaper

SEE THE WALLPAPER

The right wallpaper can completely transform a room, turning a plain wall into a stunning focal point. Wallpaper adds depth and texture that paint alone can’t achieve. Whether you choose a subtle pattern or a bold print, wallpaper brings personality and polish to your design.

Wallpaper application is much easier than it used to be, thanks to peel-and-stick and pre-pasted options that simplify the process. With fewer messes and quicker results, installing wallpaper has become a fun and rewarding DIY project for any skill level.

I am a big fan of wallpaper. I have installed it all over my home and now in several rooms in Heang’s house. This organic blue patterned wallpaper is from Lowe’s, and it is absolutely stunning. Click here to see how the Lowe’s TikTok account was majorly flirting with me.

Stylish Mid-Century Chairs

SEE THE CHAIRS

Midcentury modern furniture offers a timeless blend of sleek lines and functional design that never goes out of style. Its minimalist aesthetic brings a clean, sophisticated look to any space while still feeling warm and inviting. With its perfect balance of comfort and class, this design style continues to be a favorite for modern interiors.

If you fill your entire house with Mid-century Modern furniture, it could look more like cosplay than home design. When you blend pieces with styles from different decades, you get a unique space that looks comfortable and curated.

Heang’s home office is a big room, so I really needed to find chairs for this sitting area that are substantial enough to really fill the space. Not to mention, they are very comfortable. I can envision Heang’s kids lounging in these chairs while she works.

Centerpiece Desk

SEE THE DESK

Every home office needs a statement desk. I chose a glass desk because it offers a distinctly more feminine and elegant look compared to a bulky wood desk, which can often feel heavy and imposing. This particular glass desk goes beyond function. The sculptural base and sleek glass top are eye-catching from every angle. As a result, it doesn’t just blend into the room; it becomes the centerpiece.

Side note: a transparent glass desk in the center of the room is a bold choice! If your space is a little cluttered or you like to keep things out on your desk, you might look for a desk that offers more storage.

Lovely Desk Chair:

SEE THE CHAIR

You don’t have to settle for a traditional roller chair to complete your desk setup—this midcentury-style chair is proof! One goal of this design was to create a space that is comfortable, beautiful, and functional. This chair hits all those points. Its clean lines and tapered legs echo the other chairs in the room. It’s giving Mid-century-ish, but not so much that it defines the style of the room.

Delicate Side Table

SEE THE TABLE

The small pedestal side table, with its antique-inspired design, adds a charming layer of character to the room. Though it’s not a true antique, its spindle detailing gives it the feeling of a well-loved piece that’s been part of the home for generations. It’s the kind of accent that tells a story, adding depth and personality without overwhelming the space.

The spindle on this table leans more towards 1800s European (even though it’s brand new). Adding this piece perfectly balances the mid-century items in the room (and vice versa).

Pop-of-Color in a Lamp

SEE THE LAMP

This small blue lamp is so cute and simple, and it’s the perfect complement to the blue floral wallpaper. In a room with a mostly muted and classic palette, the lamp adds just the right pop of color, fresh and cheerful. The color of this lamp is very pretty in person, and looks great in the space without being overly matchy. I love a pop of color to keep people on their toes.

The Infamous Fandelier:

SEE THE FANDELIER

Have you ever seen a chandelier that’s also a fan? They’re called fandeliers, and they’re the perfect blend of style and function. When I shared this one on TikTok, the response was amazing—so many people commented that they had no idea something like this existed and couldn’t wait to get one for their own space. It’s classy and eye-catching, with all the elegance of a chandelier, but it also keeps the room cool and comfortable, which is especially important in a sun-filled space like this.

I can’t wait for you to see how this room comes together—it’s already starting to feel so special, and there’s still more to come! If you’ve been enjoying the process so far, be sure to follow along on TikTok where I’m sharing all the behind-the-scenes moments of this DIY renovation. From design decisions to hands-on projects, you’ll get a real-time look at how everything is transforming step by step.
