Heang’s Office, Part 4 of 4: The Reveal
It’s been an absolute pleasure helping Heang transform her office space. I can’t tell you what an honor it is to work with someone who trusts my vision and design execution in her home. Everyone needs a friend who believes in them as much as Heang does!
This home office that began as a catch-all room has become a shining jewel at the front entrance of her home. It’s warm, polished, and full of personality, and makes a great first impression.
But most importantly, this space works for her. Heang has an important job that requires focus, creativity, and clarity, and now she has a space that fully supports her. This office isn’t just beautiful; it gives her the physical and mental room to show up as her very best every day.
Why Home Design Matters
Home design isn’t just about keeping up with the Joneses or perfecting the place you call home. A well-designed, well-functioning space can have a powerful impact on your mental health. When your environment is organized, comfortable, and visually calming, it reduces stress and creates a sense of clarity and control.
Natural light, thoughtful colors, and furniture that supports your daily routines all contribute to a more peaceful state of mind. Instead of draining your energy, your space can to restore it—allowing you to focus, relax, and feel more grounded in your day-to-day life.
You’ll see in the photos below how an overcrowded den with no real function quickly turned into chaos in Heang’s otherwise organized home. Our goal in the project was to create a space that feels beautiful and purposeful, and we nailed it.
The Before: Undesigned Dumping Zone

Heang and her family have been transforming this home over the last year. It was originally her in-law’s house, and when Heang’s family moved in, it still contained a lot of her in-laws belongings. As we’ve worked through from room to room, our goal has been to design spaces that reflect their style and needs.
While we worked on the children’s rooms, their dining room and living room, this front room quietly became the catch-all and dumping ground, absorbing everything that didn’t quite have a home elsewhere. It’s a huge space, and full of odds and ends but lacking a clear purpose. The space never truly had a function—until now.

The After
Now, this home office is no longer just another room—it’s a statement. As the first space guests see when they walk through the front door, it sets the tone for the entire home. With its thoughtful layout, layered textures, and polished details, the design speaks to both warmth and intention.
Heang’s home office perfectly encapsulates the style she and her family have been cultivating throughout the rest of the house—welcoming, elevated, and uniquely their own. This once-forgotten room has become a proud introduction to their home’s personality.

Classic, Simple, Calming
In Heang’s home office, we prioritized a sense of simplicity and calm, using light and bright colors to create an open, airy atmosphere. We layered in unique vintage finds to add personality and charm, making the space feel both collected and intentional.
Every piece of furniture was chosen not just for style, but for function—ensuring the room supports Heang’s work while still feeling like a beautiful extension of her home. This is something important to remember when designing your own home. Your home should be a comfortable space for the people who live in it, not a museum. Choose pieces that are stylish and functional.

A Color to Energize the Space
Many of the features in this room are calming muted colors. We wanted to add a soft, refreshing pop of color and this stunning wallpaper was a winner. I love how the pattern keeps your eye moving and brings in visual interest without overwhelming the space.

Beautiful and Functional Furniture
To balance out the light, bright color palette in this room, we incorporated midcentury-style chairs that bring a sense of sturdiness and structure to the room.
The desk, a secondhand find, was given new life with a coat of gold paint and now serves as a focal point of the space. Positioned to catch the eye the moment you walk in, it adds both function and a bold touch of personality to the room.

Unique Custom Built-in
Hands down, this built-in project was one of the biggest I’ve taken on in my DIY career, and I’m so proud of how it turned out.
I can hardly believe this gorgeous built-in started with simple IKEA cabinets. This is just more proof that you don’t need custom cabinetry to create a high-end look. It’s a perfect blend of style, storage, and statement.

Staging Magic
Staging bookshelves is one of the easiest ways to transform functional storage into a warm, inviting feature that makes your house feel like home. Think of your shelves as an opportunity to create a beautiful moment in your space.
By thoughtfully mixing practical items—like books and storage baskets—with decorative pieces such as vases, framed photos, or travel mementos, you can achieve a balance of form and function. A well-styled shelf not only keeps your home organized but also tells your story, making the space feel intentional, personal, and lived in.
