The IKEA PAX System for Your Custom DIY Closet Makeover

If you own an old home like I do, you know that there’s not usually much space dedicated to closets. Back when our Victorian-style home was built, families opted for armories and stand-alone wardrobe units instead of closet space. So, when I started thinking about my dream closet, I knew I wanted a high-end, full custom cabinetry look on a budget. Enter the IKEA PAX system.

4 Important Things to Remember W​hen Buying IKEA

Measure, Measure, Measure! 

Before heading to IKEA or spending any time on the PAX planner, it’s very important to measure your space accurately. Grab your tape measure and check (and double-check) the width, height, and depth of your available space.

Don’t forget to account for elements like moldings, vents, or baseboards that may get in the way of your IKEA PAX system. It’s a good idea to check your measurements at least once before making any purchases.

Make a Plan Before You Buy

PAX offers an incredible number of options. From different sizes and types of doors to various different accessories. Take some time to think through how you’ll use your closet space.

If you want pull-out trays for your jewelry, what height do they need to be for you to see all of your favorite accessories?

Do you want sliding doors or hinged doors? Sliding doors save space, but if you have the space, hinged doors provide better visibility. The choices are endless, just make sure you take plenty of time to plan.
