Penelope’s Sensory Room
I am so thrilled with the way Penelope’s sensory room turned out. This room was designed to feel cheerful, calming, and full of opportunity for movement. It’s an inviting space where she can be a kid after a long day of structure and focus at school.
By creating a room that encourages active play, the space becomes more than just a fun design. It supports the natural need many young children have to move their bodies and release stored energy.
A dedicated sensory room—or even a few thoughtfully chosen sensory elements in a bedroom or playroom—can be especially helpful for children who need movement, quiet, or sensory input to regulate their emotions and energy. Kids who are highly active, easily overstimulated, sensitive to noise or textures, or those who have difficulty transitioning after school often benefit from having a space that helps them reset. It can also be valuable for children who simply thrive when given opportunities to climb, swing, fidget, or retreat into a calming environment designed for comfort and focus.
