From Cluttered to Classy: A Chic Office Transformation
Over the last couple of months, I’ve had the privilege of designing bedrooms for two special siblings. After treating her kids to room transformations, their mom, T, decided she wanted an upgrade of her own! T’s office had been a catch-all space that doubled as a workspace for a few months (they’ve only been in the house for about 6 months). It had a daybed, a long desk with limited storage, and a pile of boxes that had no home. I’m so happy to have had the chance to give this deserving and hardworking mom and space of her own. Her new office transformation blends feminine and classic styles and is not just functional; it has created a truly enjoyable place to work.
The Boring Before
T doesn’t work from home every day, but when she does, she wants to do it in a place that makes her feel like the professional woman she is, not an afterthought. Here are some before images of the space to give you an idea of what we were working with. As you can tell, this space has great bones. Like the rest of the home, T’s office has high-quality carpeting and plenty of natural light. We just needed to add some personality so she could really feel at home.

The Wall Trim Set the Tone
Wall trim is one of the simplest and most affordable ways to completely transform a room’s feel. With just a few pieces of molding, you can instantly elevate the space, add architectural interest, and create a custom look without the custom price tag. It’s amazing how something so budget-friendly can bring so much personality.
There are many different types of wall trim. You can read this blog post to learn more about the process and choose the trim style that works best in your home. Trust me, if I can do it, so can you!
I chose Sherwin-Williams Stardew, a soft blue paint, for the trim wall. It’s just enough color to make the detailing pop without overwhelming the room. It’s subtle, elegant, and calming, and adds personality without shouting for attention. The right color can create a soothing backdrop for the rest of the design. We definitely got the color right in this office transformation.
Box trim is a secret weapon for turning a single piece of artwork into a true focal point. On a long, empty wall, one frame might feel too small. But by adding box trim around it, you instantly give the piece presence and purpose. The trim acts like a built-in spotlight, grounding the artwork. Suddenly, one painting feels intentional and beautifully balanced. It’s an easy way to create a custom look without spending a fortune.

Lovely Lighting
I can’t get over how great this picture light is. Let this serve as my reminder to you that great lighting isn’t reserved for galleries or museums. Picture lights are an easy, stylish upgrade you can add to an office transformation or any other room in your home. As you can see from the pictures before, this art piece conveniently covers several electrical outlets, giving plenty of room to plug in and hang the picture light.
However, if you don’t have access to a plug, or if you don’t want to bother with electrical work, there are plenty of affordable, battery-operated options online, which means no wiring, no electrical work, and no hassle. Just mount them above your artwork and instantly elevate your space.

Linens Set the Tone
This room started out as a plain tan box, but there are so many ways to break free from that flat, neutral look. One of the easiest ways to add texture is to bring in linens and rugs. Layering fabrics adds warmth, depth, and visual interest. Even subtle texture can make a huge difference in how inviting a room feels.
The blue in the curtains pulls the trim wall color into the rest of the office, creating a cohesive flow instead of letting that feature wall stand alone. The oriental-style rug adds visual interest while still honoring the same soft color palette. It’s a perfect example of how pattern and color can work together to make a room feel intentional.

Classic Furniture
The desk that used to be in this space was essentially just a long table with no storage, so everything ended up piled on top, making the workspace feel cluttered and overwhelming. Upgrading to a new desk with matching credenzas completely changed the functionality—and the vibe—of the room. Now she has plenty of storage, everything has a place, and the matching furniture set brings a new level of elegance to the space.

Instead of pushing the desk against the wall as it was before, we floated it in the middle of the room, which made the space feel larger and more open. The new desk suddenly looks substantial and intentional, not like an afterthought squeezed into a corner. Now T faces the door, with natural light pouring onto her workspace, creating a bright, welcoming place to sit down and start her day.
The light fixture we chose casts a stunning glimmer throughout the entire room. And you may be shocked to know this stunner of a light fixture doubles as a ceiling fan. They’re called fandeliers, and I love them! This fandelier brings a touch of feminine glamour to the space and makes the whole office feel polished and special. I love the way the shadows change throughout the day.

Accessories Bring It All Together
In a space filled with soft blues and gentle grays, the room needed a touch of warmth to avoid feeling too cool or monochromatic. Luckily, the homeowner already had this beautiful caramel-brown desk chair, and it was exactly what the space needed. The rich tone adds depth, coziness, and balance. Not to mention that using what you already have is great for the budget!
And, of course, every room needs some fresh greens to add natural beauty. I placed this beautiful orchid in a crystal bowl I got from a thrift store. This is a great reminder that collected items make every space look more personalized.

I filled the credenzas with personal items and decor, giving the space warmth and personality right from the start. My hope is that this office will continue to evolve as she uses it, gaining new memories, new pieces, and new layers over time. We’ve created a strong design foundation, and now T gets to make it truly her own.

An Office Transformation Fit For a Queen

It was such a privilege to come in and create a space that works so well for T. I see home design as a way to craft comfortable, cohesive environments where you can feel your absolute best. In this home, that meant leaning into a classic, feminine style—but in your home, it might look completely different. Good design isn’t about following trends; it’s about creating spaces that reflect you.
