A Moody Color Drenched Bathroom
This is by far the smallest room I’ve ever designed, and it was a privilege to do it for my friend Heang! I’ve had so much fun designing her home, room by room, over the last year. In a small space, every inch has to be intentional, and it pushed me to get really creative.
Despite its size, this color drenched bathroom ended up feeling functional and full of personality. It’s just more proof that small spaces can make a big impact.
Color drenching has been all the rage for the last few years. It’s something I’ve wanted to do, but it’s a big leap to cover a room from floor to ceiling with dark green paint. Fortunately, Heang’s powder bathroom was already a dark color, so going dark wasn’t a stretch.
Here’s How I Did It
I started by adding the giant picture molding trim. You can see the process in the video linked below. You might think that more is less in a small room like this. But, in my experience, sometimes the smallest rooms benefit from the really bold choices.
I used a laser level and painters’ tape to lay out the pattern before adding the trim. I highly recommend investing in a good laser level if you plan to undertake any trim projects. Small imperfections can be very visible.
The original sink in this bathroom was a small corner sink, designed to occupy the least amount of space. While I understand the motivation, it caused the room to look unbalanced. So, we hired someone to relocate the plumbing to the other wall and installed this new, beautiful sink and counter. One of the many benefits of this project is having enough counter space to accessorize.
