6 Essential Tools for Home DIYers [Dr. DIY Approved]

| |

You don’t need a giant woodshop or be a professional carpenter to make your home look beautiful. Trust me — I’ve done countless projects in and around my house with just a few tools. Having an arsenal of power tools on hand means I’m ready for whatever the project comes up next. If you’re ready to tackle your own DIY projects, here are my absolute favorite, most essential DIY tools. Scroll to the bottom to find links for each tool.

Two quick notes:

  1. All of the DIY tools on this list are Ryobi. This is not a sponsored post. I’m just a big fan of their products. That said, Ryobi, if you’re looking for a brand ambassador, I’m your girl!
  2. I always choose the cordless versions of these tools because Ryobi uses an interchangeable battery system. I can switch the same battery between all my tools, which makes life so much easier when I’m in the middle of a project!

Ryobi Cordless Brad Nailer – My Favorite Tool

If I could only pick one tool to keep, it would be my Ryobi cordless brad nailer, hands down. This tool has completely changed the game for me when it comes to building and finishing projects. Whether I’m attaching trim, building frames, or making quick furniture repairs, the cordless brad nailer makes it so easy. No compressor, no hoses — just grab and go. It’s powerful, fast, and reliable, and it leaves such a clean, professional look. I honestly don’t know how I lived without it!

Ryobi Drill – Love the Options It Gives Me

A good drill is non-negotiable in any DIY toolkit, and my Ryobi drill is a true workhorse. What I love most is how versatile it is when you start playing with all the different drill bits, from driving screws to drilling holes in 100 my year old plaster walls. You can also use it to mix paint, or even use a brush attachment to scrub grout (yes, really!). This drill does it all. It’s lightweight but strong, with a battery that lasts through long projects. I always feel ready for anything when I have this drill by my side.

Ryobi Jig Saw – Powerful, Yet Not-so-Scary

There’s just something about using a jigsaw that feels so satisfying, and my Ryobi jigsaw makes me feel like a true builder. It’s surprisingly powerful and cuts through wood like butter. If you’re afraid of using a table saw or chop saw, this jig saw is a much less intimidating tool. It’s one of those DIY tools that makes you feel capable of creating anything you can imagine.

Ryobi Multi-Tool – The DIY Swiss Army Tool

The Ryobi multi-tool doesn’t get as much attention as the bigger tools, but it’s one of my secret weapons for DIY success. It’s perfect for sanding small spaces, cutting through drywall, scraping up old flooring — you name it. The variety of attachments you can use makes it so versatile. When you’re working on projects in older homes (like cutting out damaged sections of wood or baseboards), the size and precision of this tool are a total lifesaver.

Ryobi Work Light – Brighten Up Your Projects

I used to think I could get by with overhead lights or a flashlight for my DIY projects, but once I got the Ryobi work light, I realized how much easier (and safer!) it is to work with proper lighting. It’s super bright, easy to position, and of course, cordless. Whether I’m working late at night, in a dark garage, or under cabinets, the work light makes sure I can see every detail clearly. Plus, it runs on the same battery as my other Ryobi tools, so it’s really convenient.

Ryobi Staple Gun – 100x Better Than the Manual Kind

I can’t leave out my Ryobi staple gun! I used it when I installed my stair runner, and it made the whole process so much easier (and faster) than using a manual stapler. It’s also fantastic for upholstery projects — no more sore hands or struggling to get enough pressure. The cordless design allows you to move freely around your project, and the power it delivers ensures every staple feels strong and secure.

Sometimes, all you need to build DIY confidence is a collection of the right tools, and maybe some inflated self-confidence (it’s my secret weapon). Whether you’re just getting started with DIY or looking to upgrade your basic tool kit, these Ryobi tools are the ones I reach for constantly. Thanks to the interchangeable batteries, it’s even easier (and more affordable) to build your collection. These tools make every project feel possible — and honestly, a lot more fun!
